How Can We Help Your Class?
Field trips at TCDC can work particularly well to meet curriculum for Grades 7 and 8 science. Trips can be tailored to your class and what you want them to learn on the trip.
Grade 7 – Interactions With Ecosystems
- Discussing the history of the park, students can learn how humans had an impact on the landscape
- Exploring the wooded areas for decomposers can start discussions on their importance
- The composting toilets can be an example of how we use decomposers to recycle energy
- Discussions can be had on how we can restore and protect natural ecosystems
Grade 8 – Water Systems
- Exploring along the river bank, different practices can be seen and how they impact the flow of water
- The river and pond can be used to discuss the water cycle and watersheds
- Looking at the surrounding areas, students can learn how pollutants travel and how we can manage them better
- Taking and observing water samples from the pond can be used to discuss drinking water availability and the need for filtration/treatment
- Discussions on ecosystem preservation can be connected back to water quality
